Good points as well - and I wasn't intending to say that he should go unpunished or the issue otherwise unaddressed, just that I'd prefer that to happen in sensible story developments for reasons established within the story, rather than simply because they should. I completely understand where you're coming from with the just-world thing, it's just that it can kinda cause a story to feel contrived if not kept in check.
