Just then the teacher approached them and told Zoe that she needed to report to the guidance office.
"I guess your about to find out." Athena said as Zoe got up and made her way to the office.
As she entered, Jon was exiting. "Hi, Zoe," he said.
"What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Just talking to Rebecca...Miss Fine. She helped me put a lot of things in perspective. You should talk to her. I have to get back...don't want to miss anything in class." He headed off.
Zoe entered the office.
"You must be Zoe," the woman said. "Why don't you sit down?"
"What did you do to my brother?"
"It is called counseling. Jon took it for granted that his mother would do everything for him. He is nearly an adult. That isn't healthy. I am helping him."
Zoe rolled her eyes.
"I saw that, Zoe. Think about it for yourself. From what your mother told me, you seem to be rebelling for the sake of rebelling...not because you have any actual cause."
"I'm rebelling against society, and conformists..." Zoe said.
"Exactly...for the sake of rebelling," the woman said. "But tell me...you and your friends seem to look down on others with disdain and contempt. Exactly like the people you hate the most..."
Zoe looked at her. "Fuck off."
"Again, not constructive," Miss Fine said. In order to gain control over Zoe, she needed to break her resistance down. "Your brother was resistant to counseling as well, Zoe. He's come around. What you are doing isn't healthy," she insisted. "At your heart of hearts...what do you really want?" She asked, soothingly.
