After searching a few more places in the room and coming up empty, Jon realized that the stone was definitely not there. But if it wasn't there, then where was it?
He went to the master bedroom to check there. He began to open drawers, finding nothing but clothes so far. One side was full of clothes not unlike the ones Sarah was wearing, the other, more feminine ones...in his size. He tried the closet...Laura was right. Two pairs of jeans and dozens of dresses.
There were even clothes laid out. A yellow sundress hung on the back of the door. A neat pile of clothes lay on one side of the bed. On the nightstand was a pocketbook and a charging cell phone.
He'd always supposed Sarah, demanding as she was, would end up with, if not Biff, someone like him. It wasn't as if he'd never fantasized about Sarah. She did everything to encourage people to fantasize about her. She was just such a bitch ...except today. Certainly, she was still controlling, but she'd actually been helpful, concerned...Was there a good side to Sarah that took a stupid wish to reveal?
He suddenly remembered he was supposed to be searching, and took his mind away from Sarah. He didn't find anything he wouldn't expect to find in a bedroom like this.
He could hear Susan and Laura calling him from downstairs.
