Karyn shook her head. "I really don't have time for this. I have to clean the house. I'm having guests over tonight and I have to make a good impression. And I can't have you here. So please, do me a favor and leave." She stood, looking sternly at Jon. This was not the Karyn he remembered. She was so ... serious. Jon squinted at her, noticing something. Did she look older than before? He wasn't sure. "Now," she ordered.
"But ..."
"Take your stuff and get out," Karyn said. She did look older. By at least a few years. He hadn't noticed it, distracted by other things.
Karyn threw open the door. Standing there was another familiar face, who looked over at Karyn. "What is she doing here, Mom?"
"Just leaving," Karyn said, firmly.
