"Come on Stephie, stop messing around," Zoe said.
"I don't know what you're talking about, lady," Stephie snapped. "I'm not going with you!"
"What's the problem, here?" Jenny asked, walking over.
"It's Stephie, she's acting up for some reason. Pretending she doesn't know us."
"Aw, now Stephie, don't be like that," Jenny said.
Stephie was getting more and more confused. Who were these people, and why was everyone acting like she should know them? Bibi was her only sister, and she didn't even have a brother.
"Come on, Stephie, you shouldn't mess with Zoe and Jon like that," Jenny said, after Stephie refused to reply.
Stephie went stiff as a board at the mention of Jon's name. She looked at him. He looked to be the right age, and was a little like how Jenny described him in the book, but that was impossible, wasn't it? It couldn't really be Jon from the story.
Jon, for his part, felt that there was something strange about the librarian who was smoothing things over between his sister and the younger girl who was apparently also his sister. He had never seen her before, but somehow she looked familiar. Perhaps she was somebody he knew who was changed, like Karyn was?
