Ricky wasn't sure what he was afraid of. It wasn't like he'd never been interested in a boy before, but Danny ... he was as nervous as if it were his first time. He'd always been a bit of a tomboy, and was surprised Gloria, who was the exact opposite, thought of him as a friend.
He quickly asked for permission to leave the classroom, then ran to the girl's restroom and stood in front of the mirror. He'd always been a bit of a tomboy, but he was a girl, after all, wasn't he?
Ricky suddenly felt a discomfort in his gut. Great, I start thinking about being a girl and I get cramps. It was his genitals making a final withdrawal into his body, as his age finally regressed all the way into the mid-teens.
Maybe Gloria is right. Maybe I need to change my image, she thought. Maybe use my real name instead of Ricky. People had been calling her Ricky since grade school.
She looked at herself for a long while. She wasn't going to let Gloria turn her into something she wasn't, but she could stand some changes.
Rachel "Ricky" Rossi walked out of the restroom, telling herself (despite her uncertainty) that she was going to let Gloria try to help her. After all, Danny was one of the cutest and sweetest boys in school, not a jerk like some of the athletic types.
