Kendall hung up the phone with his friend and blinked, the two parts of his self clashing for a moment. One, the hard-working federal agent who took the weirdness of his job with calm and professionalism, and two, the growing and more powerful loving wife and mother who apparently worked at a bank and had just been the victim of a disturbing crime.
His pendant was in fact, working. However, it worked by diverting magical energy away from him. The energy in question was quite powerful, and diverted energy was flowing into those around him. When he spoke to them, it created a kind of feedback that diverted him from whatever he was doing.
Thompson was actually quite lucky by comparison. Everyone had a different reaction to magic, and he was still, for the most part, fully in control of himself, if in control of himself with the emotions of a teenage girl. He'd isolated himself from others, but that wasn't going to help for very long.
Kendall tried to think of a plan to overcome this problem. Trying to dial the base had caused him to call other people, purely by accident. He tried to focus on another approach. He had called his people earlier, all he had to do was select the number and hit redial...not try to enter or select the number. He pulled over and focused very intently on doing just that.
