"Come on, Jon," Linda said. "Let's get you back to your room. You still have to unpack all of your stuff." She placed her hand on Jon's arm and quickly led him to the guest bedroom. But halfway there, Jon shrugged her off.
"Jeez, Mom. I know the way to my bedroom," Jon said.
Linda blinked. What did he just call her? She wasn't his mom. Or was she? Linda looked down at herself and saw that her clothes had changed. It wasn't a drastic change (her clothes looked a bit more conservative than normal), but it was a change nonetheless. How had that happened?
"Mom? Are you okay?" Jon asked.
Linda blinked again. "Of course, dear. I ... I just felt a little strange there for a moment."
"Maybe you should lie down. I know you've been working hard lately," Jon said, then he headed into his bedroom, as his skin took on a darker tone and his hair slowly turned black.
Maybe he's right, Linda Takada said, heading into the master bedroom.
When Linda touched Jon's arm, she became his new mother. And reality changed so that Jon was no longer a foreign exchange student, but rather a Japanese American, like his mom, who (like Jon) was slowly changing into a Japanese female.
