"What happened to the house?" Jennifer asked, after she came inside.
"Nothing happened to it," her mother said. "Now, where were you last night? And tell me the truth, or so help me God, you won't see the light of day for a very very long time. You think I grounded you for a long time before? You haven't seen anything yet."
"Grounded me? You've never grounded me," Jennifer said, her eyes wide. Why was her mother acting like this?
"Apparently not, since you just defy my orders and go out anyway," she said sourly.
"Mom, what's going on? Why are you acting like this?"
