In the morning, Lauren drove him back to the studio with her for a table read. They got there first, and he quickly realized that it meant a rehearsal of the script around a table.
Zoe slipped down next to him. "Hi, Jonathan," she said, cheerily. She wasn't a Goth, or anything like his Zoe. Zoe didn't smile at him, for one. "I need to ask you a favor."
"Umm...sure," Jon said.
"I know we don't know each other that well, but if this show gets picked up, we could be together for a while. I wanted to know if you wanted to get together sometime. You, me, and your girlfriend. I'll try to find a date to bring along...so it will be even."
"Uh...sure. Tell me when is good for you," Jon said, still faking it, "and I'll check my schedule."
She smiled. "You're the best."
It was then that Karyn drifted in. She was wearing sunglasses, and designer clothes. When she took off the glasses, he noticed her eyes looked red, as if she hadn't been sleeping.
"You're late again," the director told her.
"I'm here now," she said. She was speaking in a Southern accent. "It isn't like this is Shakespeare, Robbie. It's a kids show."
"Prima donna," Zoe muttered.
"What?"
"Shannon...I heard her agent told her she was going to be the star when she signed up, not your co-star. I wonder what her fans would say if they knew she was really like."
