Susan MacMillian had taken it upon herself to retrain her daughter. If she'd lost her identity, the woman decided, it was up to her, not some egghead psychiatrist, to put her back together.
Thus, taking up just as much time as the daily therapy sessions, Jon was subjected to girl lessons. This included Susan regaling her with her days as a high school cheerleader, makeup, fashion, and beauty tips, and more.
Susan would pick out her clothing each day, until she decided Jon was ready to do so himself. He wasn't allowed to leave the house, and the psychiatrist came to him, so he was going a bit stir crazy.
After a little over a week, Jon got up, showered, and dressed, applied makeup, and headed down to breakfast without realizing his outfit matched all of the rules Susan had drilled into him, and he looked very much like he remembered Sarah looking.
He suddenly leaned against a wall, panicking, afraid of what he might be turning into...namely a girl. It took a long time before he was ready enough to enter the dining room.
