"What accident?" Jon asked.
The doctor sighed. "We do this every time," he muttered to himself, then he looked Jon straight in the eye. "You were returning home from college for Christmas."
"College? But I'm not ..."
The doctor held up his hand. "The road was slippery. No could blame you. It truly was an accident. But you never did see it that way. You ..."
"Just tell me what happened!" Jon yelled.
"As you approached your house, your car spun off the road and hit ... hit your mother and sister."
Jon stared at him. What was this doctor saying? That Jon ran over his own family but blocked it out of his mind? "What happened to ..."
"Your mother died instantly. Your sister, however, had fallen into a coma. She's still in a coma to this day. And her chances of waking up don't seem very good."
"If only I had my ..."
"Wishing stone?" the doctor asked, finishing Jon's thought.
Jon looked up at him, with hopeful eyes.
"Jon. That's all a fantasy. The wishing stone doesn't really exist. It's all in your mind."
Jon slumped, and started to cry. Why was this happening to him?
