Sharon opened the front door and stepped out, not watching what she was doing. And just a moment later, she collided with someone.
"Where are you going, little girl?" she heard a voice say. She turned her attention towards the person and saw that it was a pizza delivery guy. She had forgotten that she had called for a pizza a half an hour ago. She figured that she would be in front of the TV all afternoon watching the news coverage of the body swapping phenomenon. She couldn't have imagined that she would be taking part in it.
Suddenly, the guy looked dazed, then his eyes lit up when he saw the pizza box in his hands. He opened the box and smiled. "Dude, this is way better than that stuff that Mom's making me eat." He grabbed a piece of the sausage and pepperoni pizza and shoved it in his mouth.
"Hey, that's my pizza," Sharon said, still not understanding that the guy had been swapped with someone else.
"Get your own pizza, you little twerp. This is mine." Then he ran away, but not in the direction of his delivery car.
Sharon scratched her head, trying to make sense of what just happened. Then her eyes went wide. She touched him. So that meant that he swapped with someone. But who?
Ted looked around the kitchen, dazed. Then he looked down at the table. He was holding a spoon above a bowl of soup, like he was in the process of eating it. But a moment ago he was outside delivering a pizza. How did he get here?
"Bobby, eat your soup," a woman said.
Ted looked up and saw a conservatively dressed woman wearing a frilly apron. "Who are you?"
"Bobby, that's enough of that. Eat the rest of your lunch this instant, or so help me, I'll ..." she said, grabbing his arm. Suddenly, her face went blank. Then she blinked and looked around with confusion. "How did I get here?"
One moment Martha was grilling her disobedient son, and then the next, she was outside riding a bicycle. The shock of changing locations like that, and the fact that she wasn't prepared to be riding a bike, caused her to topple over and hit the pavement.
As she looked down at her bleeding arm, she noticed that her clothes had changed too. She was now wearing a sports bra and spandex shorts. How could she be wearing something so revealing?
"Are you okay?" a young boy asked. He was playing Frisbee with his dog when he saw her fall off the bike. He grabbed her shoulder then suddenly became dizzy, then confused. "What happened? I was in my car and ..."
Somewhere nearby they heard a loud crash. The boy looked up. "Hey! That's my car!"
Sharon scratched her head, trying to make sense of what just happened. Then her eyes went wide. She touched him. So that meant that he swapped with someone. But who?
As she thought about it, she noticed a young woman in spandex riding a bike past her house. And a moment later, she lost her balance and fell off. Then a young boy playing with his dog ran over to her. Shortly later, a car drove by her house. And she wasn't sure, but she could have sworn that the man inside took his hands off the wheel, then put them back on and turned the wheel back and forth, like children might do when they're playing. The car ended up driving off the road and hitting a tree.
After this scene played out, Sharon realized what was happening. People were being affected by the same body swapping phenomenon that was affecting her sister's town. But for some reason, this one was acting more isolated. People only seemed to be swapping with people who were in close proximity to them, not people who were miles away.
But this still wasn't good. People swapping with other people was just not a good thing, no matter what the circumstances were.
