"So that incantation you read ... does that stabilize the level that you're at or return you to how you were when you first swapped?" Zoe asked, on their way to her house. They figured that Zoe's house would be the best place to look for her brother. With his help, they thought that they could eliminate the body swapping phenomenon that gripped the town.
"It returns you to how you were when you first swapped," Rachel answered. "So since I performed the incantation on you, me, and Athena, we should all be completely in control of our actions, without having to worry about other people's personalities taking over."
"Thank goddess for that," Athena said. "I never wanted to see myself become like that Angie girl. I like being a witch."
"You do realize that that's what Angie will become if we don't cast the stabilization spell on her," Rachel said.
"Really," Athena said, with a smile, imagining the Catholic girl suddenly wanting to act like a witch.
"Don't smile. Things are grave," Rachel said. "We have to find a way to reverse everything, change everyone back to normal. Things are not supposed to be this way."
"Shh," Zoe said, as they got closer to her house.
"What is it?" Athena asked.
"Look," she said, pointing at a black car parked along the street.
"What about it?" Athena asked.
"I think they're watching my house."
"How could you know ..."
"I think she's right," Rachel said. "Let's approach carefully."
They slowly walked closer to the car, making sure they weren't noticed, then they hid behind a group of bushes.
The driver's side window was slightly open, but enough that they could hear what the two men inside were saying.
The passenger held up a pair of binoculars towards Zoe's house.
"See anything?" the driver asked.
"Nope."
The driver sighed, then checked his watch. "It's time."
"Already? Man, that stuff runs out quick."
The driver turned around and grabbed something out of the backseat. It was a briefcase. He opened it and took out a needle and some sort of greenish blue liquid in a vial. Then each of them injected the liquid into themselves.
"What is that?" Zoe whispered to Rachel.
"I don't know," she answered. Then, as she watched the two men, their auras flared. She turned away quickly, covering her eyes.
"Rachel, are you okay?" Athena whispered.
Rachel opened her eyes, then blinked. "What the hell was that?" She looked back at the two men and saw that their auras seemed a bit off, but she had no idea why.
The driver closed the case and put it back where he got it. Then he got a phone call.
"Who is it?" he passenger asked.
The driver looked down at the cellphone. "It's Kendall." Then he answered it.
"Who's Kendall?" Zoe whispered.
"I don't know. But I think we should find out," Rachel said.
"What does he want?" the passenger asked.
"He says the target isn't at the club. He wants us to stay here and watch the house. Maybe the mother will come back."
"They're looking for my mom?" Zoe whispered. "Why?"
"Let's find out," Rachel whispered, then she stood up from behind the bushes and walked down the gentle slope towards the parked car.
Athena and Zoe exchanged worried glances, then followed her.
