Ann Brant looked around, like she didn't know where she was, then said "How did I get here?"
"Mom? Are you okay?" Tim asked, approaching her.
"Don't touch her!" his father yelled, but it was too late. Tim had already grabbed his mother's arm.
Suddenly, a bright flash of light filled the room and he found himself somewhere else. From somewhere close by, he could hear people yelling and whistling. He also heard loud thumping music.
"And?" a woman asked. Tim turned his head and saw an almost naked girl of about twenty-one. She was looking straight at him. "You just stopped talking in mid-sentence."
He did? What was he saying? The last thing he remembered was being in his living room with his parents. He grabbed his mother's arm ... and then he was here.
The woman waved her hand in front of his face. "Earth to Destiny. Come on, girl. Snap out of it."
Girl? Tim didn't look anything like a girl. He ...
Tim's eyes went wide as he gazed down at himself. The T-shirt and pajama bottoms he was wearing were gone, replaced with a definite female outfit, consisting of a tight bare midriff T-shirt, black leather miniskirt, fishnet stockings, and a pair of leopard skin ankle boots. He looked like a hooker! Well, a boy who was trying to pass himself off as a hooker.
"You better get going. You're due up on stage soon. Donna left. She didn't tell anyone she was going. She just left. And Gloria's around here somewhere, but she's ill or something, so it's just you and me for the next few hours."
On stage soon? What exactly did this girl expect him to do? What kind of place was this?
It was painfully clear now that Tim had swapped bodies with someone, just like his parents said would happen if they didn't evacuate soon. And from the way he was dressed, he assumed that he was in a woman's body, as weird as that sounded.
"Destiny," the woman said. That must have been the name of the person he was inhabiting. Kind of a strange name.
"Yeah?"
"What are you just standing there for? Get going. The crowd is getting restless out there." The woman walked away and into another room, leaving Tim alone to figure out just what the hell was going on.
