Jon was led to a small cell aboard then Sontaran ship and roughly shoved inside. The trooper activated a force field, which shimmered into life with a distinct light blur.

“Wait here, boy,” the Sontaran sneered. “Our commander will see you for further questioning soon.”

Then the alien stalked away, leaving Jon to his thoughts.

He slumped against the wall. He’d screamed and kicked all the way to the ship and all it had gotten him was a hoarse throat and aches all over his body. All the fight in him was gone and all he could do was numbly regret the destruction his hubris had brought.

All he’d wanted to do was impress Karyn. They’d been huge Doctor Who nerds since they were kids and he’d thought if he could maybe give her an adventure like the ones in the show or see her face light up when she finally saw the inside of a real life time machine... That would have made everything worth it.

Instead Karyn was dead and who knew how many other people were dead or dying back at the mall and Jon was a prisoner aboard a spaceship that was taking him far away from everything he’d known. And worst of all, the one thing that could possibly fix all of this was stuck inside a little box under his bed. If he could have one wish now, it’d have been to never set eyes on the stone in the first place.

Jon felt tears stinging his cheeks and he let the pressure building up in his chest leave in a ragged sob that kept coming and coming.

Jon couldn’t tell how long he cried - it felt like hours - but eventually he calmed down just enough to hear footsteps approaching down the corridor. He stood and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. If it was that trooper, back to take him for interrogation, he didn’t want it to see he’d been crying.

A figure turned the corner in front of Jon’s cell. It was...
