Susan was an attractive middle aged woman...but the person curled up in bed was...much more different than Mikey had been. Mikey only seemed a bit taller.

But Susan was significantly smaller....and the sheets were soaked with some sort of odd fluid. "What in the world..." Jon said.

Susan had been nearly five and a half feet tall. If he measured the stain on the sheet versus her size now, it looked like she'd lost at least a foot of height, not to mention the other changes.

It was a much more violent reaction than Jon himself had noticed, or even Mickey.

He turned to get his mother and ran into Karyn in the hall. Karyn was wearing glasses. "You have to see this...but be quiet."

Karyn joined him in the bedroom. She seemed to be intrigued, looking around the bed. "We should take measurements," she remarked.

"What...is that stuff? It isn't blood."

"She's shrunk...this isn't magic. It's science," Karyn said. "That's where the rest of her went. They needed energy...they probably used her protein to power themselves and with the fuel source they were able to work faster. That's probably the leftover water and broken down pieces."

"My hair is longer," Jon commented. "But other than that...I'm not different."

Karyn shrugged. "I don't feel different, but when I woke up, I couldn't see without these glasses. I'm guessing the changes to us don't have fuel to burn like they did on Susan." Karyn's stomach growled. "I am pretty hungry though."

"Me too," Jon admitted.

"Did you know that protein isn't the best source of energy? It's actually second choice..." Karyn started.

"Where'd you learn that?"

"Biology...weren't you paying attention?" Karyn asked.

"Karyn, you got a B- in biology," he reminded her. Karyn wasn't a bad student, but the hard sciences weren't her thing.

She shrugged. "I could blame the glasses," she said.

"I think I'd better get Susan cleaned up," Jon said. "Can you and Mikey handle breakfast?"

"If breakfast is cereal and microwaved stuff, yeah." Karyn also would not consider cooking on her list of skills either.

"Well, I'm no Julia Child either all of the sudden," Jon said.

Karyn snorted.
