AN: From interactive "Fanfiction Gender Change", chapter originally written by Mr.George

Hermione picked it off the shelf, and with a quick look around she raised it to her face and inhaled. She loved the aroma of musty old books, and knew the boys would tease her if they ever found out. She quickly regretted it as she started to wheeze, the book was very dusty.

'Transfigurations: A series of Experiments.'

She ran one finger over the gold embossed title, wiping away the accumulated dirt. The name had faded too much to be read, but it had her attention. She curled up in front of the fire, a blanket across her lap, and Crookshanks on top of that.

When her cat started to cutely snore, she knew she was in for the long haul. She was not the sort of monster who would disturb a sleeping cat.

Hermione found it to be intriguing. It reminded her of Harry's potion book, and felt like it was written by someone with a real insight into transformations and transfigurations. She wondered how it ended up here. It was hard not to be dismissive, as she looked around the ramshackle, but homely house.

Reminding herself, it was rude to make such judgements, and that she was a guest. She dismissed the uncertainty, as just a thing that an old wizarding family picked up.

She found a whole range of spells, including a whole... well, ceremony... rite?.... to help a wizard or witch to become an animagus. It came with a worryingly long list of warnings, but she filed it away mentally.

On page 56, she found a gender reversal spell. She read it twice to be sure, as polyjuice, and other such potions were generally considered the simplest way to perform a transfiguration. The risks of miscasting a spell, could lead to rather horrific results, and formed the basis of some legendary creatures, according to her History Professor.

Sadly she thought of Professor Snape. He had been incredibly proud of his prowess with potions. Understandably so, and when she discovered he was the half-blood prince, he went up in her estimation.

A smile crossed Hermione's face, as she realised that the twins had obviously never spotted this... this treasure trove of spells.
