Looking up from the Marauder Map, she takes in Harry with a brief nod.
"Ron..." then she does a double take, "R-R-Ron?"
Ronda gives a shrug, "I'm thinking of being Ronda when I look this good."
"Jesus, Ron. How careless can you be?" she snorted. Her eyes taking in the treasure trove of books, wands and potions.
"Do you at least know what changed you?"
"It wasn't deliberate." Ronda answered, a pout on her face. But as she points to the broken fragments on the floor, Hermione pictures Ron messing about and smashing the bottle.
"It's called The Witch Maker." he added reading her expression, and trying to regain her credibility.
"Shit.... You're sure." Hermione carefully bent down to examine the fragments of the bottle. Finding enough of the label to read, she confirmed what she'd just heard.
"I thought the crescents might be moons... so it would last a month." Harry added hoping to calm the rising voices and tempers.
Hermione's shoulders fell, and she gave a sigh.
Both Ronda and Harry knew it was time to listen.
"The Witch Maker, it's not an ordinary potion. It's a very old, very stable transformation potion."
Ronda's face fell, "Is ... Is it ... is it permanent?" her voice quavered, as she felt the reality of the situation setting.
"No... But Harry's not far wrong either about the moons. It's a punishment potion, they were created before Azkaban Prison was built."
She pointed to the remains of the potion seeping away.
"This was to teach wizard's respect for the fairer sex."
"Fairer sex.."
"Quiet girl." Hermione snapped back, glaring at Ronda.
Ronda's teeth clicked together and instantly she was silent.
"Sorry, just a test." Hermione explained.
"It enforces the drinker's prejudices upon themselves. If the accused was sexist, it would work against them, building their sex appeal. Some men just view women as sex objects, as a vessel to be used and cast aside. Or if the drinker thought that women should be seen but not heard, it would make her submissive. It was intended primarily for rapists and other sex offenders. It also worked deeper down, making the offender happy with their lot.... their sexiness .... their submissiveness ...."
She turned to face Ronda, "Can you feel it working?"
Mutely, afraid to speak, Ronda nodded her agreement.
"At the end of the punishment, many offenders choose to keep their new bodies... The few that do regain their masculinity, well, they never re-offend."
