Kayla drove home, that was the first surprise, she had a car. It was a 1995 Honda Accord, but it was a car. Earlier in the day she had a savings account she was planning on using towards an Ivy League school and now she had a car, and something in her was very happy with that choice as she made it home in 7 minutes instead of the usual 30 minute walk. No one was home when she got there, so she went up stairs...some things were different, a new painting hung in the mantel, and the whole place felt more clean...too clean actually, but that wasn't the thing one notices on a day like Kayla was having.
Her room was a different story. Cloths were everywhere, her wall, which was once bear now had a photo collage growing on it. Some of it was of her, things she didn't really remember...no wait...that may have happened....it was a wall full of fuzzy memories...it was overwhelming to look at, her new life, her past year staring her in the face, so she looked away, and as soon as she did the pressure stopped and she felt like herself again.
Her closet was the biggest change from what had been, yes it was full of new things she had never worn before, and her new mind liked what she saw and kept distracting her with ideas of how to mix and match things she found. This was fun. In the very back of the closet next to a bunch of cool new shoes which got her very excited, was something familiar, her long boxes, containing her manga and comics, and next to it another box, full of old cosmos and a couple of September issues of Vogue. The comics looked disused and dusty but the new Cosmos looked recently used. But she didn't feel like reading at the moment, she felt like...
"honey come down here we've got some great news!"
She went down stairs, her parents were waiting. They also seemed different, for one her Mom was blonder and bustier than she remembered her being, and her father seemed taller, she wasn't used to seeing him in a suit, as he preferred to work from home or in casual attire.
"Honey, your father was up for a promotion with the restructuring that the McMillan company is going through after being bought out by the Bluths, and we just found out he got it!" "Your father is now Vice President of Operations and Consulting for the whole company!"
They went out to celebrate, a nice steak dinner, Kayla found herself tremendously hungry (unknowingly from having her breasts growing a full cup size that day). She was treated like a princess the whole night and enjoyed it immensely, she didn't even pay much to what her parents were talking about, which seemed to be mostly money, they seemed quite happy.
Halfway into the meal she got a call from Gladys, but told her she couldn't pick up.
Gladys replied that was cool, and that they could talk tomorrow at the Cheerleader meeting.
