In Art they were working on free drawing from reference. They had the full class to come up with the best recreation of a photo they brought. Kayla had one of her, Gladys, and Jay in the hallway from earlier that year. But first she took a photo of herself with her phone and time stamped it to mark any changes, she didn't seem to have control over this but she felt it was a puzzle and wanted to work it out.
She began to draw, trying to take her mind off this strange day, she could enter a zone when drawing, a place of peace. She usually drew in a manga style, but today found her pencil taking a more realistic style. She drew and as she drew she thought on her friends, she thought of Jay as the absentminded dork, the cute dork, was he cute? She thought he could be if he manned up a bit, she wanted him to like her more than she thought he was aware....men. She thought on Gladys, her oldest friend, always supportive, always there and understanding...she wondered how far she would change and if Gladys would still support the new her. Gladys wasn't bad looking, but she could lose 60 pounds...maybe they should start going to the gym together...
Her thoughts were interrupted by the bell, she looked at what she had drawn. It was her friends, but it wasn't. Gladys looked about 40 pounds lighter than she should be, idealized, better by far, her hair down around her shoulders and instead of a sweater she wore a top which Kayla had invented off the top of her head. Jay on the other hand seemed taller, bigger, and was wearing a jacket, not a letter jacket per say, but something in that style, he looked cuter. Then there was herself. She had done an "I wish I looked like this" version of herself before, she wasn't proud of it, this looked better than that. Her boobs seemed bigger, her hair was as it was now, and in her eyes she had drawn a sparkle. She noticed she had given herself blonde highlights, and she liked the effect, and her cloths were also of her own design, and were certainly designer. A top which was V cut and thin strapped and hung low on her hips, and a skirt that was matched by a ring belt that went over the top and hung down to where the skirt met. Her hair seemed longer...
She stopped to take a picture of herself and compare.
She compared the two shots, there was a change. She hadn't smiled in the first, but had in the second...letting off a sparkle in her eye, and a then there were the highlights which had suddenly appeared...they hadn't been there before either.
She kept the pictures, she could take a loss on the days work....she had to get to the bottom of this...she had to find the Gladys and Jay. Lunch was next, they would have a lot to talk about.
