She approached the man behind the counter, already thinking about buying several costumes and accessories that she had already spotted around the room.
"You have a very good selection," she told the man, approvingly.
"Thank you. Do you know what it is you are interested in buying?" He was wearing a pair of white gloves...the sort people used when handling old newspapers and fragile items. There was a box of them near the cash register.
"Well, I'll be needing a lot of things, if your prices are right."
His eyes lit up a bit. "For a play?"
"For several. I teach high school drama...and we do two productions a year, and some small monologues and scenes."
He nodded. That had potential. "Why don't you separate out everything you need, and put it onto this rack here, and I'll tally it up. If it is that much, I'll even arrange for delivery." He grinned. "Anything for the kids."
"That's wonderful of you..."
He walked with her as she filled a rack and several boxes worth of accessories. Everything in the store, oddly enough, was in a clear plastic bag...the sort one might use to seal a valuable. The price for the whole thing was astonishingly low. Maybe the man was giving her a discount. Some people did want to support education.
She didn't think much of it until the next day, when she arrived in her small office to discover a series of boxes, filled with costumes. Each piece of clothing was still neatly wrapped in clear plastic. It looked like it had come from a dry cleaners.
