"You can hang out too, Randi." Delia said, looking to Jade for confirmation.
"Yes. It would be unkind to just have you give us a ride and then dismiss you." Jade said.
"I appreciate the offer, but I can't." Randi said. "My mom said I needed to be home by 2 for something, and I'm already kind of pushing it."
"Well, if you get out of whatever it is quickly enough, you should come by." Delia said.
"Maybe...we'll see." Randi responded.
The car pulled up to the front of Jade's house, and the two passengers got out. They all said their goodbyes, and Randi went on her way.
Jade and Delia went inside. "I'm going to grab a drink, do you want anything?" Jade asked, heading toward the kitchen.
"Um, water would be great, thanks." Delia said, walking in the opposite direction. After Jade fetched two bottles of water, she saw that Delia was gone.
"Where'd you go?" Jade asked, looking around.
"I'm in your room." Delia said.
Jade walked into her room, looking at the other girl curiously. "You just looked around until you found my room?" she asked.
"Not really. I kind of...knew where it was." Delia said.
"Hmmm, quite interesting." Jade said, handing Delia the water. "Perhaps the spell is still affecting us."
"You mean it's messing with our heads?" Delia asked, twisting the cap off the water.
"Jade nodded. "It could be some sort of...fail safe. Designed to make sure we are capable of living these lives. Slight memories coming to us."
"What if it's just changing us completely?" Delia asked after taking a sip.
"If it was that simple, and that was the ultimate goal, why not just do it from the get go?" Jade asked, sitting at her desk.
"Maybe she can't." Delia suggested, sitting at the foot of Jade's bed. "Maybe Ms. Holloway isn't strong enough to change us like that."
"She used it as a threat against Trinity. She could have been bluffing, but in that situation, she had no reason to do so." Jade said. "She held all of the cards, so to speak."
"True." Delia said. "So, what do you think it means?"
"I'm not sure..." Jade said, turning around and turning on her computer. "But, I would like to try an experiment."
"Okay, what are we going to do?"
"I will ask you questions based off some things from your new past that I saw on social media. I need you to not look at the screen, and try to answer them." Jade said.
"And...what will this prove." Delia asked.
"Well, right now you have no memory of your new past, correct?"
"Right..." Delia affirmed.
"Well, if you are asked a question that you would be expected to know, but can't answer it, people would become suspicious. Such as if you came here, and my parents saw that you couldn't find my room. But, once you were in my house, your memories kicked in, for lack of a better term." Jade explained. "So that you could find your way around. So now, let me ask you. Where is my bathroom?"
Delia looked confused for a moment, and then something clicked. "It's around the corner, first door on the right..."
"Correct. Now, on with the experiment." Jade said, turning around to look at her screen.
Delia laid back on the bed. "Alright, hit me..."
And so began a long line of questioning.
