The first days of summer were packed, tanning, pool parties, shopping, and all of them discovering the mall, a place which they did not visit all that often before, now became their home. This affected Athena in particular in that she had spent more money in the first week of summer than she did the first six months of her old life, which felt more and more like a silly dream. Of course she wasn't going to dress in black gothic dresses anymore, it was unbecoming of head cheerleaders to do so. Instead she found she dressed her best, and looked her best at all times, and she found this easier than it looked to be from the outside. There were of course times when she would spend a lot more time on how she looked, like when she was seeing Biff, but for the most part the priming and primping didn't bother her at all, it felt, as too many things did those days, oddly natural.
Then there was Zoe, who had maintained her Goth persona during the final week of school and had not been seen for the week since school ended. She was invited to a pool party that Athena threw, a pool party that involved her first keg stand, but was a no show.
Then on the tenth day of summer break, there was a knock at the door, and a girl with light brown hair and unsunned skin stood at the door.
"You can buy me some cloths if you want, but that's as far as I'm taking this."
Athena was ecstatic.
