Leanne stood on her scale at home. She had done this many times before. She watched the numbers flux as they debated over which weight was the right one for her. 135, 125, 131, 130, 131. She found herself hoping for the lower of the two as it slowed down, shifting her weight on the scale as if that would help. It stopped at 129.
She was a little on the chubby side, but compared to how she looked a few hours ago, she felt like a rail. Well, a rail with boobs. She looked at the scale again. 129. She had never been that before, at least not for several years. She remembered being so much bigger, so much sadder. Being big was sad. Small was happy. Thin. She was thin. She smiled.
Leanne liked being thin, but as she looked at herself, was it right that her boobs looked so big on her disproportionately thin frame? That must have been where most of the fat went, she thought. If she got even thinner, she'd risk looking freakish, instead of sexy. And she really wanted to stay looking sexy.
She thought about Jay Duncan, who was her best friend back when she was Leonard. She thought about him as cute and smart, hoping that he thought the same of her too. A bit of a nerd, though. But he could change that, if he worked out a bit.
Later that night, she got a call from one of the cheer girls (Sandy) about a boy she liked. Sandy did a lot of the talking, and Leanne did a lot of zoning out, looking at herself in the mirror and thinking about Jay. She eventually just blew Sandy off, telling her to call him and see.
Leanne wanted to talk to Jay.
