Steven was on his first day of his last year in college.

He was a rather average teenager, with ordinary black hair and lightly tanned skin. The truth is, he didn’t stand out in any particular way. He had one or two friends of course, and had an interest in well- the usual. Girls were at the top of the list of his interests. He always thought that maybe he could make friends with a girl, though his friend Karl tended to say that guys couldn’t really be ‘friends’ with a girl. It just didn’t happen.

Steven wondered where Karl was. They were supposed to be meeting up before class started. “He must be running late,” Steven sighed. He watched the other students in their odd clicks of groups. The cheerleaders, the jocks… the nerds…

Steven didn’t really go in any of these circles. He was a bit of everything in his own mind. Just… lacking in some self confidence maybe.

He decided to go to his locker and put his books in it. He made his way across the corridors, quietly listening in on the chatter. He walked like a ghost amongst them, his hands in his jacket trying to shuffle past everyone. In some ways he didn’t really mind that they didn’t notice him. His mind drifted to what his plans were. He was looking forward to the last year and hopefully doing better academically. He was a bit tired of being so.. average. Maybe this was the year he could just excel at -something-.

He unlocked the locker and… something came out of it. The object fell down flat on the ground before his feet. Steven was surprised at such a thing happening as he was quite sure he had emptied everything out. What he found was some kind of book. There was a.. star on the front, with a light pink front and a dark blue back. “What’s this?” He thought as he picked it up. It was actually heavier then he thought it would be for paper. It was in his locker.. did someone put it in there? It looked like it could be some kind of journal- likely belonging to a girl. He bit his lip.. dare he have a quick read inside?

There were a few pages of writing written in the paper but there was a bound bookmark guiding him to the last thing written inside. There was just a single sentence.

‘I’m a cute girl that everyone notices...’

The words seemed to glow as he read them. They lifted off the pages and.. vanished each part being drawn before his eyes like a strange 3D effect. Suddenly Steven felt an odd sensation. He felt like he just ‘fell’ into … something. Though in reality, he was shrinking. He dropped the book startled by a sensation of his hands as they became… far more dainty then they ever used to be. “What is happe- my voice!” Steven’s voice was high pitched… felt his neck as his Adam's apple dwindled. His height dropped at least an entire foot to about five feet.

His black hair began to change, becoming it’s oposing colour.. a very strange bluish white that seemed to be its natural colour. A colour that would stand out and everyone would notice. It started to trail down his shoulders as his features softened. His hips expanded gently as his waist shrunk.. a strange warmth erupted within as he felt.. something.. just fade away. “No- Ah- What NO! It can’t be! I’m a-”

Then his chest started to expand. Generous curves formed on his front.. C-cup sized breasts formed on his torso as an unseen bra suddenly tightened around his now feminized clothes. Even his trainers had gone into a slight girlish twist. His- well- her jeans seemed tight enough on his legs to emphesise her new slender form.

“No- No-” She kept on saying. Her body was no longer hers. Her body Her- Her body! It was a girl;s. A freakin’ girl’s body! She quickly picked up the note book again glancing around. She opened up the first page this time- she was about to read more when… when the first page made her pause. It seemed to be a set of instructions.

RULE 1: THAT WHICH IS WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK WILL HAPPEN WHEN READ.

She frowned. So.. she read something… and it happened. She became a girl because of this!

“Hey babe,” A voice called out. It was Karl. Her friend?

“Karl!” She gasped.

Suddenly Karl was hugging her. “I missed you over the summer holidays-”

“Stop what are you doing!” The girl stepped back much to Karl’s confusion.

“I’m just.. giving my girlfriend a hug,” he said wondering what he had done to upset her. “I know it’s been a while but...” he trailed off. “You know what holiday’s can be like. Families all have their own thing. Are you okay?” he looked at her in concern.

Steven looked at him like he was completely crazy. “I- uh- I need to go!” She quickly ran down the corridor.

Karl watched her go surprised. “Weird...” he bit his lip. He hoped she was okay.

Steven cringed as she looked at all of her possessions. She had snuck away to the music classroom. Nobody was here but she was.. quietly looking at all her identification cards. Her driving license was now Stephanie Hayward. Everything in her history seemed to point to her being this.. this girl! In some quiet moment of fear she decided to look at her various E-mails. Most of them were what she expected except for her name being different- but there was an awful lot more from Karl. They were friends before but now they were more.. MORE!

“I can’t- No way- No freakin’ way!” She clenched her fists. “I can fix this.” She carefully opened the strange note book taking out a pen, pulling back her oddly coloured hair when it got in the way. She made sure to open it back to the page she saw which was now blank. How best to word it though? She wasn’t sure if this thing was like a literal genie… if she said her name was Steven it might just keep her as a girl named Steven.. or if she said she was ‘back to normal’ it might make her normal to think she was Stephanie!

Still she had to try something. Maybe if she played it safe… “I’m a boy..” simple.. generic.. and hopefully it will turn her back. There was a strange shimmer but.. the words stayed on the page. Nothing happened. Anxiously she stared at it waiting to see if… anything would happen. The only other safe page she knew was the first page. Not sure where else to go she tried looking again and was startled to see more words had appeared on the front.

RULE 2: THE WORDS WILL REMAIN ON THE BOOK IF THEY CONTRADICT A PREVIOUS ENTRY, UNTIL READ BY SOMEONE THEY CAN EFFECT.

Stephenie frowned. “Nuts- Oh crap- but then if someone reads those words...” If a ‘girl’ read those words… she would turn into a guy! He had to erase it. Or maybe remove it. He ripped out the page.. tearing it up as quickly as he could. He threw it away but- the page just appeared again with the same words he wrote, exacly as before! Startled he tried to erase it by writing ‘over’ it. However nothing changed it.. they remained on there, waiting for someone to eventually read them.

“What have I done...”

She looked back at the ‘rule’s page’.. finding more rules slowly appearing.

RULE 3: ONLY THOES WHO TOUCH THE BOOK WILL BE AWARE OF CHANGES IN REALITY…

Stephanie gasped. She could then ues this to let Karl know why they couldn’t be a couple! It was an idea anyway… though she really also had to get back to class. As far as anyone knew.. this was her life… she also noted one other part in the book that made her cringe.

THIS BOOK BELONGS TO: Stephanie Hayward.
