Sarah McMillan entered the cafeteria, boyfriend Biff dutifully standing with her, and her entourage of cheerleader followers surrounding her.
Biff wasn't always with her. He often hung out with his own friends, but they'd just made up after one of their famous fights. They'd broken up and gotten back together five times in the last three months.
They started toward the line for food, cutting in front of a group of nerds obliviously. They continued their discussions.
"Excuse me," Walter Smukmeyer said. He had to repeat himself several times, as they seemed to be ignoring him.
Finally, it was Sarah who turned to face him and the other nerds. "What do you want, loser?"
"You cut in front of us." All of Walter's party seemed to think this confrontation was a bad idea.
"So...?" Sarah asked.
"I don't think that's right," he said, quietly.
She looked at him, and laughed. "I'm the Head Cheerleader, and you're...nothing. "
Walter looked at her. He was normally a shy, timid boy...but today, he just...had enough. And oddly enough, a cafeteria line had been the last straw. Not being bullied, stuffed in trash cans, made fun of. "I'm not nothing. You don't know anything about me...or any of us. You just do what you do because you are cruel, and you can...It's not fair."
She turned back to her friends, dismissing him as if he was nothing. "Can you believe that dweeb?" She said.
Walter stared at her back. It was just so unfair. His father had told him once he needed to stand up for himself. He'd tried, and had been dismissed. He moved forward again, and tapped Sarah's shoulder...and suddenly...
