Karyn stood up from the table and took a step towards Jon, giggling again as she did so. So Jon took a step back. But when he did, he accidentally bumped into one of the new Goths. He clenched himself, waiting for the flash of light to happen, dreading his transformation into a freak. But nothing happened. He opened his eyes and looked down at himself. He was still the same as always. Did it not work on him? Or was it that people could only be changed by the first person changed (Sarah, Nadine, Zoe, Karyn)? He hoped it was the latter. That way, all he'd have to do is keep everyone away from just four people, instead of the mass of people that had already been changed.
When Karyn continued to walk towards Jon, she accidentally bumped into Tina, who was still looking quite bewildered by the event taking place in the cafeteria. Tina glowed white and when the light was gone, she became a bimbo, wearing tight revealing girly clothes and giggling a lot.
Jon looked left and right. Now at least twelve people had been "ghettoized", at least twenty people had been "gothicized", and another five were "Southernized" (it looked like Zoe must have changed someone, maybe accidentally, then continued to change others). The rest of the lunchroom was in a mass panic and it was exactly what Jon was trying to prevent. In trying to leave the room, some people ran right smack into one of the first-changed people. A mousy girl ran into Sarah and became a sexy streetwalker. One of the remaining jocks ran into Nadine and became a Goth boy. If there was anything good that Jon saw as he watched the terror unfold in front of him, it was that he was probably right about why he wasn't turned into a Goth earlier. It appeared that people only changed when they touched one of the first-changed people, or the first-changed people touched them. This made things a little simpler for Jon, but it was still a big problem.
