Karyn was shocked, her dark eyes widening in surprise. Then she suddenly began giggling! "Well Jon, you wanted something new and different, you certainly got what you asked for!"
"It's not funny, Karyn... or should I say Rosaria? I can't stay like this an entire year," Jon complained, and then lowered his voice to a whisper to add, "I've got boobs the size of cantaloupes, and they are heavy and uncomfortable! And boys keep staring at me, sizing me up like I'm on the lunch menu! I even have to be careful how I sit in this tiny skirt, to keep from giving everyone a show!"
"And what about me?" Sarah whined. "I'm used to fancy cloths, the best of everything, and being the most popular girl in school... now I'm a dirt-poor pig farmer, and a boy! And not even a very handsome one!"
"Look, what's done is done, we should all try to make the best of it," Karyn said. "We might all learn a lot from this. My memories are still hazy, but I can already tell that I'm now fluent in Spanish, and I help my father in his restaurant after school. I don't seem to have any strong memories of Bethany or Joe-Bob, I don't think Rosaria was friends with them before. In fact, I think she was new to this school, and had just come to the US this summer."
"You're probably an illegal alien," Sarah sneered. She was finally getting over her shock and her natural nastiness began to re-emerge.
Karyn was about the snap back at the lanky boy housing Sarah's personality, when a flash of memory caused her to pause. She remembered sneaking across the border, moving at night to avoid being seen, being chased at one point by Mexican drug runners trying to capture would-be illegals so they could use them as drug mules. "Dios mio, Sarah... You're right, I am an illegal! I remember now! That must be why she wanted to take part in the exchange program!"
"Don't worry Karyn, we won't say anything," Jon said, trying to comfort her friend. She turned and gave Sarah a hard look, "Right Sarah?"
"Sure, sure," he said, and then grinned because he knew he now had some leverage over Karyn, and through her, Jon. "We wouldn't want you to be deported to Mexico, would we? Then you'd never get your body back... Hey, I'll see you two later, I wanna check out this new school, see if it's all as big a dump as the gym." With that, he walked off.
Karyn whispered to Jon "Can you fix this with the stone? Make me, I mean Rosaria, a US citizen?"
"Karyn, I just realized... I don't have the stone! It's back home, a thousand miles away from here! I have no way of changing things, and what if Bethany finds the stone in my body? What if she figures out how to use it?"
"Jon, we have to do something... find some way back to our old school, and the stone! But how, neither of us has a driver's license yet, and we both have parents here that would worry if their daughters simply ran away!"
