He walked through the hall, thinking about what might happen when suddenly he spotted Janelle Carter.
Janelle was one of the people Jon considered a friend. Jon actually was one of those people that most people were friendly with, although he had a much smaller group of friends. He was fairly unobjectionable, after all. Janelle took that to a whole other level. Everyone liked her. He wasn't sure there was anyone in the school who didn't like her, while he had plenty of people who hated him...cheerleaders and jocks, to name two groups.
He was about to head over when he spotted Danielle Wakowski. Danielle was a different story. People didn't hate her, but they certainly gave her a wide berth. She was rather accident-prone. She was thin and well-proportioned, with shoulder length hair that was perpetually in her eyes, and had a nice smile, which meant Jon and other guys had thought about asking her out when she'd moved to town last year.
But then she'd step on their foot, or get them hit with a locker door, and the magic was gone. She was a walking disaster area. Not only was she accident prone, but she was often late, forgetful, and a bit naive. Jon actually felt a bit sorry for her at times.
"Janelle...watch out..." He called as Danielle suddenly stopped to get a drink of water at the water fountain. Janelle walked right into her with a thud, and Jon thought he even saw sparks. The two girls fell to the ground.
He hurried over to help and offered his hand. Janelle was still dazed, and Danielle grabbed it first. He helped her up. She smiled at him, looking a bit dizzy. "Thanks, Jon," she said. She brushed her hair out of her eyes, looking at him with an odd smile.
Is she...interested in me? Jon wondered. The way she was suddenly standing and looking at him...like she was flirting. All because he'd helped her up when she'd fallen?
He looked down, and remembered Janelle was still down there, and helped her up as well. She looked just as dazed. "Are you all right?" He asked her.
"Yeah," she said, rubbing her head. She wandered off, and narrowly missed plowing into someone, who swerved to avoid her and bumped into another person. Maybe she isn't all right Jon thought.
