Leonard Druller was hustling down the hall...well, as much as Leonard could hustle. The school had nine periods, but no student had more than eight classes in a day. He and a bunch of other kids always got together during first period, rather than after-school. It was sort of a little club.
From the other direction, Sarah McMillan was heading through the halls. She didn't have a first period either, but she had somewhere to be.
The two collided with each other suddenly. Sarah felt an odd sensation as they did. It felt like...a dislocated bone popping back into its joint...as if something loose was suddenly not.
Leonard looked at her, annoyed. "Watch where you're going," he said, with some disdain.
"Sorry," Sarah said, automatically, without thinking.
They both headed off...neither noticing they were going in the wrong direction.
