Meanwhile, Kyla Leeson was walking the halls. She was starting to feel a bit odd, a bit disconnected from herself. Maybe she was coming down with something. Suddenly, not paying attention, she walked straight into someone. It jolted her back to alertness. She suddenly felt more normal.
She went on her way, unaware of the turn her day was about to take.
Kyla was what some would call a geek. She was thin, and relatively flat chested, she had acne, she was good in school, especially math. She was shy, and usually awkward, although not clumsy. And she was picked on mercilessly.
It didn't bother her much though...well, maybe the being picked on. She knew that if she did well in school, someday she could leave all of it behind.
Her first class of the day was Calculus. She slipped into her seat, took out pen and paper, and started on the problem on the board. She copied it down, and then started focusing on it...and focusing on it...and focusing on it.
It was complete gibberish. She couldn't understand any of it. It might as well be in Sanskrit. She got out her textbook, and started through it. She didn't understand anything in it. What was going on?
