Meanwhile, in the conference room, a small meeting room near the principal's office usually used for faculty meetings, a group gathered.
At the head of the table was Athena DeVries. She didn't look the way Jon would have described her. She wasn't always pleasant, but she didn't usually have such a cold and frankly evil expression on her face.
Sitting at her left was Sabrina Johnson, one of her goth friends. But, the rest weren't Goth, nor were they people the goths would normally associate with.
Sitting on her right was Leonard Drullers, an overweight slob. Not all overweight people were slobs, in fact. But Leonard took being messy to a whole new level of disgusting.
Beyond her was one of the teachers, Kelly Robertson. Young and in her twenties, she was as uptight as they came, although today the look in her eyes was as disturbing as Athena's.
The final was a high school dropout, eighteen year old Jamie Fitzpatrick. She'd had to drop out of school the previous year to support herself and her grandmother when they'd fallen on hard times, and had been working at the local McDonalds.
"It begins," Athena said. They all closed their eyes and subtly, slowly, every door in the school sealed itself. All the windows had bars on them, but the emergency releases for them fused shut.
It would take a while for people to notice, so early in the day. All outside communications lines would work...for now. But not for long.
The sky over the school, formerly blue, grew cloudy and grey. But the students, for now, were oblivious.
"Bring her in," Athena ordered.
