Jon looked down at the clipboard and browsed through the tests. There were a lot of them. He had a feeling that all of this was happening because of that vague wish he had made with the stone, but it still didn't make much sense that he would volunteer himself to be a guinea pig. Perhaps there was an incentive that they forgot to mention, like money or exemption from all homework for the rest of the year? Maybe then he'd volunteer for this. Maybe.
He looked down at the table in front of him, the one with the devices. He looked at them all, noting that most of them looked like futuristic guns. But some of them looked like hand-held devices. At the furthest end of the table, Jon saw a few flasks of colored liquids. Mr. Fields was a chemistry teacher. Perhaps these were potions of some sort. Jon suddenly felt reluctant to participate. Using a device that may not work was one thing. But drinking an unknown liquid? That was totally something else. What if it poisoned him? They said all of this was untested.
He looked back at the clipboard and chose which test he wanted to do first, making sure to avoid the non-device tests.
"Have you decided yet?" Dr. Marsh asked, walking back towards him.
"Yeah. I want ..."
