Jon had only seen Room 21 once. Even still, when Jon arrived, he noticed that it had changed. Instead of a plain 21 on the glazed window, it said 'Experimental Science Laboratory.' Jon went in and found a series of strange mechanical devices. Mr. Fields and Dr. Marsh, two of the science teachers, were waiting there for him. Jon had always wondered why someone with a PhD like Dr. Marsh taught at a high school. She could have gotten a job at any college or research facility she wanted. And she was one of the prettiest teachers in school.

While Dr. Fields was drop dead gorgeous, Mr. Fields, the chemistry teacher, had always looked like a mad scientist. Not evil, but a wacky kind of crazy that would be really fun to hang out with in the lab. "Thank you for volunteering, Mr. Gibson," said Dr. Marsh, leading Jon to one of the strange devices. She handed him a clipboard with a list of projects on them. "These experiments will help advance the cause of science. I'm glad you volunteered for so many. We don't get too many students this dedicated. Now these experiments shouldn't hurt and should be perfectly reversable."

"Should?" asked Jon.

"Well, they are experiments," said Mr. Fields. "If we knew the results in advance, we wouldn't need to do them, now would we?"

"There are always risks with unknowns like these," said Dr. Marsh. "These are cutting edge theories that we are testing out. That's why its so important for us to have volunteers. We wouldn't want anyone who wasn't aware of and willing to accept the risks. Now, take a look at the list. It will have a description of the available tests. Take as long as you need to decide. When you've made a decision, please let us know."
