By the time lunch came around, Karyn was really getting worried. She hadn't seen Jon since he told her about his careless wish. Thinking something bad might have happened to him, she decided to go look for him.
She started by walking across the cafeteria to where Zoe sat with her friends. "Have you seen Jon?"
Zoe looked up. "Not since he left the house," she said. "Why the fuck are you asking me? Aren't you two joined at the hip?"
"Because he wasn't in class third period, and now he isn't here at lunch."
Zoe paused. She might not get along with Jon, but he was still her brother. Cutting class certainly wasn't like him.
Karyn took this opportunity, seeing the smallest hint of concern on Zoe's face. "Can you help me look for him?"
"Yeah, whatever," she said. She looked at her group of friends. It was smaller today. She hadn't seen Trevor since this morning, Stephanie was cutting, and she wasn't sure where Sabrina was. "I'll be back in a few," she said, grabbing her bag.
