As the class began, the science teacher, Mr. Burkley, paired everyone into groups. Jon and Stacy wound up being paired up, which allowed them some more time to talk.
"How do you remember the old me?" Stacy asked as soon as they reached their work station.
"I don't know." Jon lied. "I just remember Steve Farber, not Stacy Farber."
"I can't believe it. I thought I would be the only one to remember the old me." Stacy says.
"What exactly happened to you?" Jon asked. "How did you end up like this?"
Stacy explained to Jon about Ms. Fletcher and the dean, what they did, and everything they said. After she finished her explanation, she looked at him and asked "So what are we going to do?"
"I don't know what I'm going to do." Jon said, looking up from the experiment. "But you're going to go about your day as normally as you can."
"What? There's no way I'm going to just sit back and act like everything is okay." Stacy said.
"Think about this rationally for a second." Jon said. "If you go back to that room and start snooping around, they'll just do something more to you. I have a chance of looking around and getting away with it. Besides, I have Ms. Fletcher for my next class. I may be able to find something out there."
"Thank you so much, Jon." Stacy said. "I don't know how much longer I'd be able to hold on if I were the only one to remember how things used to be."
Jon looked at Stacy, and found it hard to believe that she used to be Steve 'The Stud' Farber. She acted so different, and she only changed a few hours ago. "It's not a problem. The dean and Ms. Fletcher shouldn't be allowed to get away with this."
The pair worked in silence for a few minutes, wrapping up there work just a moment before the bell rang. "I'll talk to you after lunch if I learn anything." Jon said.
"All right, and thanks again Jon." Stacy said. She walked off to her class. Jon stood there for a moment, thinking. It seems their punishment, regardless of how misguided it is, is having an effect. he thought. But it's still completely wrong. he decided before heading to his class.
