"I think," said Sam, "that some people have it better off now, and some people have it worse. We should go case-by-case, and only change people who need it."
Jen nodded. She liked the idea of minimizing wishes as much as possible.
They both agreed that Renee seemed happier now, and that Biff was a lot nicer. Isabella was better off as part of their group than she was with the ESOL boys. Kyla was not only better off herself with her new status, both Sam and Jen agreed she was a good influence on the school.
Karyn was the first person on the list that might need some adjustment. The two agreed that her original self probably wouldn't approve of the "social butterfly" she had become, but they argued back and forth a little with regards to how to fix it. After a minute or so, Jen held out the magic stone and said, "I wish Karyn Black cared as much about modesty as I do." It seemed loose enough not to cause too much damage, but specific enough not to do anything unexpected.
Neither could really see any harm in Mrs. Fleischer learning how to do makeup, or in Jamie wearing fancy clothes. Jamie being a girl may have been a problem, but Jen did some quick introspection and decided she liked herself both as a gymnast and as a girl, and decided that Jamie was certainly no worse off than she'd been as a boy.
Gordon was an easy decision, though. "I wish Gordon Jones was a good singer." A bit of concern flashed in Sam's mind, about whether he'd still have been asked to try out for the band, but he figured it wasn't fair to Gordon to leave him the way he was.
Moose was an easy fix, too. "I wish Moose Matthews had a proper physique for a high school linebacker."
Mrs. McMillan was a trickier subject, though. She wasn't really "worse off" or "better off." It was just a name, although certain things carried with that name. But Sam insisted that he wanted his proper last name back, and to do that they would need two switch the teacher back to Mrs. Molyneux so that there wouldn't be any strange side-effects. "I wish the teacher now known as Mrs. McMillan was really named Mrs. Molyneux."
Coach Burlington was an easy decision, too. "I wish Mark Burlington was forty years old and boy's coach at this high school." With that wish, Sam's outfit changed from athletic shirt and shorts back to the navy polo and jeans he had changed into before leaving school.
They weren't really sure what to do about Coach Barry, but made the decision again that her former self wouldn't like her new self. "I wish Felicia Barry was a lesbian."
Flipping to the second page, they saw the only person they hadn't covered was Nurse Evans. Jen was a bit uncomfortable with the number of wishes already made, and convinces Sam to let her stay.
So now everyone who was hit inadvertently by the curse was fixed. Now all that was left was to grant Sam's wishes.
