Sam looked up at the crowded bus. No. The changes were coming on faster and faster, and he didn't want to ride for twenty minutes in a vehicle with fifty other people. He decided to walk home instead.
As he left campus, however, he realized that with his new physique it made more sense to run home. So he did, barely even noticing the difference.
Until the cell phone in his pocket rang. He stopped, marveling at his lack of need to catch his breath, and flipped open the phone, hearing the voice of Terry Archer, who Sam remembered through Sarah as the school's backup quarterback, but who was now probably in a starting position without Biff on the lineup.
"Hey, dude, why'd you take off? Did you forget about practice?"
Sam stood in shock. He had football practice? Well, he supposed, he had taken Moose's muscles. It would only make sense that he'd take his position on the team, too.
"Sorry, man, I guess I spaced," Sam said. "Had a lot on my mind today. I'll be there soon as I can."
"Make sure you do. We're still warming up and Coach isn't on the field yet. If he gets here before you, he'll be pissed. And don't forget to put on your practice gear."
"Sure thing," Sam said as he hung up the phone and started his dash back to the locker room. This time he went around the buildings instead of through them, and managed to get to the locker room in only a few minutes. The whole time he was thinking to himself, "What the heck is the normal practice gear?"
Fortunately for Sam, Biff was still in the locker room when he got there. He didn't bother to ask why, he just blurted, "Hey Biff, what's the normal practice gear for the football team?"
Biff just laughed.
"Just humor me, okay," Sam said. "I've had a rough day."
Biff stifled himself and shrugged, "Shoulder pads, helmet, jersey, shorts, cleats."
Sam nodded, opened his locker, and started tearing off his clothes, getting himself totally changed as fast as possible, and flew out of the locker room, leaving Biff to sit and wonder while he gauged he could wait another two or three minutes before the cheerleaders finished changing. Why did those girls take so dang long, he wondered.
