"I wanna go home," Sam said to Nurse Evans.
"Did the headaches come back?" the nurse asked.
"No, I just want to go home. It's been a terrible day, and I want to go home."
"What happened, Jon?" Nurse Evans asked Sam's friend.
"We were just eating lunch, and he had this sort of fit, and then he started acting like this."
Nurse Evans put her hand over Sam's forehead. No fever. She took his pulse at his wrist. It was a bit fast, but not out of the range of normal.
"You can head back to lunch, Jon," Nurse Evans dismissed the boy. "Thanks for your help." After he left, the nurse turned back to the shaken student. "Now your friend's gone, you can tell me what's wrong."
"I want to go home," Sam insisted.
"I understand that, Sam, but I need a reason to call your mom," Nurse Evans said.
"I really, really don't feel well," Sam replied.
"You were okay just an hour ago," Nurse Evans rubbed Sam's arm. "What's got you so upset?"
"You wouldn't believe me. I want to go home."
"Well, you've gotta give me something. What could have happened that was so dramatic in that one hour."
Sam was getting impatient, and violently choked out, "I lost my goddamn mind, alright? In one hour, I went crazy. I want to go home. I don't care if I have to see a shrink. I just want to get away from this school right now."
Tears were flowing down his cheeks, his nose was running, his face was a bright red. Technically she wasn't supposed to do this, but Nurse Evans felt sorry or the boy, and called his mother to pick him up. As she dialed out, she could see him visibly calming down.
