Before Sarah could "get her bearings," so to say, she was pushed off-kilter again as she and Kyla were joined by two more dorks: Karyn Black and Jon Gibson. THey just burst in between Sarah and Kyla as if they'd done the same thing every morning of the school year and started talking.
Sarah was too shocked to speak, but the three of them were going a mile a minute. Between looking down at the end of her own hair and staring at Kyla's, Sarah managed to get pieces of the conversation:
"Have you guys seen Jay?"
"Chess club or something"
"That assignment for AP English"
"Like what you did with your hair"
"Oh! Sarah!"
Suddenly, Kyla turned back to Sarah, and the other two sets of eyes followed. "Something's going weird, she's been acting strange this morning. Almost like she doesn't recognize me."
Karyn stepped past Kyla and tried to put her hand on Sarah's forehead, but, not being nearly as comfortable with Karyn as Karyn was with her, Sarah flinched away. "Sarah, you okay?" Karyn asked, then turned to her other two friends. "Come on, we should take her to the nurse's office."
As Karyn put her arm around Sarah's shoulder and guided her forward, Sarah resisted again. But then she felt another headache come on. She fell back a little into Karyn's arm, leaning for support, and when she recovered, she immediately noticed something wrong: Karyn had been wearing a green sweater before. Now she was wearing a pink baby T-shirt. Precisely the same shirt Sarah thought she'd put on that morning.
As all three geeks crowded around Sarah, she took horrified stock: she was now wearing the same outfit, from the Converse sneakers to the baggy jeans to the loose-fitting sweater, that Karyn had been wearing, and Karyn had Sarah's own heels, skirt, and T-shirt on.
Now it seemed like either one of the geek girls would fit better on the squad than Sarah would. She wanted to faint.
