Karyn was waiting for Jon at their usual spot. Noticing how Jon looked, she asked, "Morning sickness again?"

"Yeah," said Jon. "Karyn, I need to know, how did I get pregnant?"

"What's up with that, Jon?" asked Karyn. "You of all people should know that. I mean, you've wanted to do this since you were, what, thirteen?"

"There's a wish involved," said Jon. "You know stuff that I don't. I can't say anything to anyone else without revealing the existance of the stone."

"How could there be a wish involved?" asked Karyn. "You've been talking about this for years, how you wanted to have a baby and stuff. That was long before you got the stone. Unless... The wish you made, it not only changed memories, it changed history, didn't it?"

"Looks like it," Jon answered, glumly.

"What exactly did you wish for?" asked Karyn. "Somehow I don't think you would have specifically wished to be pregnant unless you actaully wanted to be pregnant."

"I wished for something interesting to happen," answered Jon. "I know, I know. It was a stupid and poorly phrased wish and now I'm pregnant. Part of me is just glad it didn't do something worse to me, like stick me in the middle of a war or natural disaster."

"And it chose to make you pregnant," said Karyn. "I suppose it could be worse, but you are bringing a human being into the world and you're responsible for that life now."

"I know," said Jon. "This is something that I feel I can't just casually reverse, you know. There's a person inside me now and I feel bad about the concept of just wishing her out of existance. But I still haven't answered my question. How did I get this way."

"Well," said Karyn. "According to my memory, which apparently is wish-altered, it all started when you were thirteen..."
