Victoria left Dr. lester's office with a signed letter declaring that she was who she claimed to be, as well as a couple of pamphlets. Of course, GPAD being the rare disease that it was, he didn't have a pamphlet on that, so he tried to do the next best thing; one pamphlet on female-to-male transitioning (which Victoria accepted politely before throwing it into the garbage immediately after stepping outside, having absolutely no desire ever to become a male again) and one pamphlet handed out to pubescent girls entitled "Girl to Woman." She and Zoe had fun laughing at it in the back seat of the car.
The last errand that Victoria and her family had to run was a quick visit to the the DMV. "Quick" was of course in relative terms (as all interactions with the bureaucracy were liable to be); in fact the whole thing took more than an hour, but it was (as they had projected) much faster than it probably would have been had they not been armed with Dr. Lester's note. The official simply needed to call up Dr. Lester's office to confirm that he had written it (which he readily acknowledged), and then she simply handed "Jon" the forms that would allow "him" to legally change "his" identity.
It was with glee that Victoria updated the documents. She felt a great swell of pride as she declared her gender, once and for all, as being Female. Submitting the documents back to the clerk, all that was needed now was for her to update her driver's liscense photo. This was, she reflected, the first picture ever taken of her as a girl.
Of course, in keeping with the laws of nature, the photo itself (like all drivers liscence photos) was awful, but at least it reflected who she really was!
And when the card itself was finally printed, she gazed down upon it happily. "VICTORIA LILITH MILLER. FEMALE."
She inserted it into her wallet (she was going to have to get a new, more feminine wallet), removing her old liscense and driver's information.
Jon, she thought wistfuly, looking at the picture of her former self. He was just a memory now, and a rapidly fading one; he didn't even exist in the eyes of the law anymore. It had been less than a day since her transformation, and already she was starting to forget what it had felt like to be male. And she didn't miss it. At all.
The transformation was complete. Only Victoria, only the woman remained. Jon, the man, was dead.
"Good riddance," said Victoria, as she tossed what was left of Jon into the garbage.
