Karyn played some notes on the flute. The music was not very appealing, but it seemed to get the job done, and the flute began glowing blue. The light flashed around Jon, who Karyn was focusing on, but nothing happened.
Jon was taken aback by the blue flash. It seemed that the magic was directed at him, and did nothing at all. "Were you trying to use the flute on me?" Jon asked.
"I was focusing on you when I blew into the flute, then it started glowing, but nothing happened." Karyn replied.
Jon, confused as to why nothing happened, told Karyn "Try directing your attention to something else, like this book." Jon picked up a book from her room and tossed it to her.
Karyn focused on the book, and blew into the flute again. A blue light flashed around the book, and the book started to smoke, then burst apart in a mild explosion.
"Good thing that flute didn't work on me, then." Jon said, "But why did it fail? I wasn't holding anything magical."
"Maybe it wasn't the stone that protected you the first time, maybe it was a wish. You said your grandpa had the stone before you right? Maybe he knew someone would find you because of the magic stone, and wished magical protection for you." Karyn focused on Jon and blew into the flute. Blue light emitted from the flute and flashed around him, but again nothing happened. "The magic doesn't work on you."
