Jon ran away.
He turned, ran down the stairs, and out his still open front door, clutching the magician's flute. He thought about what he could do against the magician. Neither of them had been able to use magic on the other, nor had his magically granted ability been able to affect the magician, but physical contact worked. He tacked the man, and the man tripped him. What would he do now that he didn't have the stone, though? And why hadn't the man's flute worked on him? He had not made any protective wishes. Was it the presence of the stone?
Jon decided that one person might be able to help him: Karyn. She knew about the stone. He began running to her house, passing by unmoving cars, people, and animals along the way. Time was still frozen.
Meanwhile...
The Piper, still at Jon's house was bothered. The boy had run off with his flute. Still, only he knew how to use the flute. Right? The boy had been able to stop his magic. Wards like that are not normal, generally only magicians have them. Just the presence of a magical object doesn't do that. That boy must be some kind of magician. He would need to interrogate Jon, and also get his flute back. The Piper decided to use the stone. "How did the boy try to use this on me? Ah yes, he made a wish. I wish that boy was back here, frozen in place." he said, holding the stone. Nothing happened. He was confused "I wish I knew why my previous wish failed." Again, nothing.
In the meantime, Jon was running to Karyn's house. Time was still frozen. He reached the house and opened the door. He ran inside and ran up to Karyn's room, where he saw her sitting at her desk.
Jon unfroze time.
Immediately, there was a green flash around him, but nothing happened.
Back at Jon's house, Jon stone glowed, simultaneously trying to bring Jon back and inform the Piper why his wish failed. The Piper was given the knowledge that a ward had blocked the stone from returning Jon to the house. The splinters of door and dresser fell to the ground, and the Piper's servants ran into Jon's room.
In Karyn's room, Karyn looked back, surprised by the sudden green flash. She saw Jon, and exclaimed "Jon! What are you doing here?"
Jon explained that a strange man with 2 magic flutes had broken into his house and transformed his mother, father and sister. He then tried to transform Jon, but failed. Jon said that he gave himself the ability to freeze time, but that it didn't work on the man, so he tackled him and managed to take his blue flute, but the man managed to take the stone.
"Now I have a magic blue flute, and he has the wishing stone. The problem is, I don't know how to use a flute, and he saw me wish on the stone."
Karyn asked "What are we going to do? And why did you come here? And what was that green flash?"
Jon was unsure what the green flash was, but he recalled a similar flash from when he tried to use a wish on the magician. "I think that flash the wishing stone. The man must have tried to use the stone on me, but it's being blocked somehow. There is some magic protecting me, I think it might be his flute. We need to figure out how to use the flute."
"I wish I knew the nature of the ward on the boy." The Piper said. He learned that it had been placed on the boy using the stone, only a fortnight ago. It deflected all magic from the boy except anything he used on himself.
Jon and Karyn tried to figure out the flute. Jon tried to remembered the way the Piper had played the flute. He handed it to Karyn while he thought. "Try playing it, maybe focus on an object?"
"Why can't you try to play it?"
"I'm trying to remember how he did it. While I think, you can experiment with it, maybe we can figure it out before he comes looking for me."
Karyn blew into the flute. Then...
