It happened so fast. Jon didn't even see it coming. He grew up with his grandfather, so they were very close. He knew his grandfather.

But this man in the backseat of the car wasn't the man Jon knew. He had become something else.

"Take me back," he said, as he held the knife to Jon's throat. "Do it."

Jon stopped the car, turned it around, and drove back the way he came.

Karyn, Zoe, and Sarah were so stunned that they were frozen in place. They couldn't stop Jon's grandfather. They just couldn't.

About ten minutes later, Jon stopped the car. His grandfather pushed the knife closer to Jon's throat. He could feel it piercing his skin.

"Did I tell you to stop?" he asked Jon.

"I had to," Jon replied, pointing out the window. His grandfather looked out the windshield and saw a man standing in the middle of the road.

It was the old man, dressed again like a street department worker. He appeared to notice that Jon had a knife to his throat and then he approached the car.

He knocked on the window. "Are you okay, kid?"

Jon shook his head. Then the old man nodded. But then he walked away, seeming to not care that Jon was in danger.

"Okay, rest time's over," Jon's grandfather said. "Time to get ..."

"Freeze!" someone yelled. They all looked at who said it. Two cops were standing outside of the car, guns pointed at Jon's grandfather. "Don't make any sudden moves, buddy. Just remove the knife from the boy's throat."

He did what the cop asked him to.

"Open the door, son," one of the cops said. Jon unlocked all of the doors. The other cop opened the back door of the car and pulled his grandfather out. "Thank you, son. We'll take it from here."

"Don't you need us to make a statement?" Jon asked.

"No. You can be on your way."

Another police car showed up at the scene. Jon noticed the logo on the side of the car: it was a drawing of a corn stalk in a circle with the words "Neffiyot City Police Department" printed over it.

Jon thought something strange was going on, so he got out of the car.

"Son, I strongly suggest that you stay in your vehicle."

Two cops got out of the police car that had just arrived.

Jon recognized one of them.

It was the middle-aged man from the gas station. The one that Karyn said was called a Watcher. Jon looked around and saw the old man standing on the curb. He seemed to mouth the words "Sorry kid," to Jon.
