After only a moment, they all heard another loud boom. It hadn't happened since they found Sarah in the cabin. This time, however, it was followed by a scream.
"What was that?" Sarah said, startled.
"Stay here with him," Karyn said. She couldn't believe she was actually telling Sarah McMillan of all people to stay with Jon, but she felt that she could trust her, a little more than usual, anyway. "I'll be right back."
She sprinted into the main room and then out the front door and onto the porch in the front.
There was another scream. It sounded much closer this time. Karyn couldn't see where it was coming from, so she stood on one of the porch railings to get a better look.
She saw endless corn fields, all the way to the horizon. And in one of the rows in the field, she saw a girl dressed in black, running for her life. Karyn looked to see if anything was following her, but didn't see anything.
The girl kept running until she came to the clearing that the cabin sat on, then she collapsed, probably from exhaustion. Karyn jumped off of the railing and went to her, to help.
She pulled the girl up off the ground and got a shock.
"Zoe?" Karyn asked. It was Zoe, Jon's younger sister. The black clothes should have been a giveaway, since she was a Goth girl. But Karyn never thought she'd see Jon's sister here.
Zoe didn't answer. She apparently had passed out. So, Karyn tried the best she could getting her into the cabin.
