Jon told Karyn about all that had happened so far.
"You're right. That is insane." She paused. "That old man you were talking about. The farmer. I think I heard him when I woke up here."
"Really? What did he say?"
"He said that we'd be fine."
"That's it?"
"Well, yeah. I guess you shouldn't be surprised, though."
"I'm not. I was just hoping that there might be something more."
They had walked for about another hour. It was still just as sunny as it was when Jon woke up in this place.
"Do you need to stop? To take a rest, I mean," Jon said.
"Sure, okay." She sat down on the ground along the side of the road. "I wonder why we can't touch each other."
"I'm still trying to figure that out," Jon replied.
As they rested, they watched the corn stalks sway in the light breeze. It was almost mesmerizing. After a minute or two they both drifted into a light sleep.
