History class passed rather uneventfully for Karyn, with the exception of the dismissing of Biff and Sarah. After taking their seats, Biff and Sarah continued to argue, with Sarah claiming that Biff wasn’t acting like himself while Biff just wanted to be left alone.
Eventually, it got to the point that Biff grabbed his head and complained of a searing headache. Mr. Lambert took this as a cue to dismiss Biff and send him to the nurse’s office. He then gave Sarah detention before returning his attention to the rest of the class.
Karyn shook her head. While things were certainly unusual between Sarah and Biff, she didn’t think that they were wish related but she made a mental note to tell Jon anyway.
When the bell rang to signal the end of classes, Karyn made her way to the nearest restrooms. Upon her arrival, she found Lucy Corinth already there standing by the sinks. She seemed to be muttering to herself as she washed her face.
Deciding not to get involved, Karyn proceeded to a stall and did her business. Once finished, she exited the stall and found that Lucy was still there. Pausing to wash her hands, Karyn couldn’t help but take notice of Lucy’s purse.
It was a cute, tan leather purse with a matching strap. Karyn didn’t own a purse—she never saw a point to it, seeing as she rarely wore makeup and often wore baggy clothing—but something inside her made her stop and look at it.
Lucy finished whatever she was doing and, after washing her hands, went to pick up her purse but noticed Karyn staring at it.
“What?” she asked. Karyn blinked, not realising that she had been staring.
“Sorry, but that purse is really cute,” Karyn found herself saying.
Lucy looked at her bag and frowned. For some reason, the bag no longer appealed to her, although she remembered being super excited about seeing it on sale. She shrugged her shoulders.
“If you want, you can have it. I don’t think that it’s my style any more.”
Karyn looked at her. “Are you sure?” she asked tentatively. “You’re just going to give it to me?”
Lucy nodded. “Uh-huh, let me just get my things out of it and then you can have it.”
Karyn watched as Lucy started taking out her belongings. Why was Lucy suddenly giving her her handbag? Lucy was a cheerleader—sure, she wasn’t as popular as Sarah McMillan or Tiffany Sanders—but handbags were almost a fashion statement for cheerleaders. Karyn actually felt a little honoured.
A few minutes later, Karyn exited the bathroom equipped with a brand new purse swung over her shoulder. Karyn noticed that Lucy had left all of her makeup in the bag, but she had left in such a hurry that Karyn barely had any time to acknowledge it.
