"Okay, that should buy me enough time to think of something else." Karyn said.
"You want to do anything else with the stone?" I asked, but Karyn had her head down on the desk, and waved me off as she tried to catch some sleep.
I gently pried the stone from her hand and commenced doodling in my dayplanner. I woke Karyn as homeroom ended. She smiled weakly, shouldered her bag awkwardly and strode off to class without saying a word.
Karyn gets pretty messed up when she's sleep-deprived.
I came up to her at her locker at recess. I tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around - she looked even worse: there were tears in the corner of her eyes.
